History of the Jalapeño Open
Proceeds from our tournament are distributed as scholarships to deserving Hispanic high school graduates and ongoing college students through the Hispanic Business Association’s Richard G. Cortez Scholarship Foundation.
Beginning with a single $500 scholarship in 1993, tournament proceeds have exceeded $230,000 and benefited more than 300 students who have demonstrated academic success, leadership skills, and determination in the pursuit of personal goals.
Our mission is to help reduce the financial obstacles that prevent many high-achieving minority students from furthering their education and fulfilling their potential. Everyone benefits when we invest in a generation of leaders who represent the diverse society in which we live.
